WHEREAS Restorative Justice processes are rapidly being adopted within Canada as well as internationally as a way of responding to crime and victimization;

 

AND WHEREAS in 2009, the United Nations recommended to adopt Basic Principles on the Use of Restorative Justice Programmes in Criminal Matters;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Honourable House urges the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to explore the benefits of adopting restorative justice practices in the Province, in consultation with outside organizations and Aboriginal groups.”
