Open Season Big Game Moose Hunting Order,
Labrador ,
2017-2018

Wild Life Regulations
and the
Wild Life Act

Under the authority of sections 38 and 114 of the Wild Life Regulations and the Wild Life Act, I make the following Order.

Analysis



Short title

        1. This Order may be cited as the Open Season Big Game Moose Hunting Order, Labrador, 2017-2018 .

Prohibition

        2. The taking of moose is prohibited throughout Labrador , except as provided for in this Order.

Moose management areas

        3. The moose management areas are as described in the Schedule.

Open Season

        4. The open season for moose hunting in all moose hunting areas shall be September 9, 2017 - March 11, 2018.

Bag limit

        5. The bag limit shall be one moose per licence.

Prohibition

        6. A person shall not transport or possess any firearm under the authority of a valid game licence without being in possession of an outdoor identification card, or non-resident equivalent card, issued to that person.

Sunday hunting

        7. Hunting with a firearm on Sundays shall be permitted across the entire province, beginning October 1, 2017 and ending April 29, 2018 for the species and during the season as described in this Order.

Repeal

        8. The Open Season Big Game Moose Hunting Order, Labrador, 2016-2017 , Newfoundland and Labrador Regulation 54/16, is repealed.

             (a)  Area 48 - Wabush

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line beginning at the intersection of the Labrador-Quebec boundary and 53° 20' 19.5" north latitude;

Then following a straight line due east to the western extremity of the shoreline of Lac Boujonnier;

Then following the southern shoreline of this lake in a southeasterly direction to the river draining said lake and flowing to Bruce Lake ;

Then following said road in a generally southwesterly direction to its intersection with the Trans Labrador Highway , Route 500;

Then following said highway in a generally southwesterly, then westerly by northwesterly direction to its intersection with the Esker-Churchill Falls-Goose Bay Access Road ;

Then following the Trans Labrador Highway in a generally southwesterly direction to its intersection with the transmission line, west of the Ossokmanuan Bridge ;

Then following the southern bank of the Wapustan River to its confluence with the Naskaupi River at 54° 06' 08.56" north latitude and 61° 26' 17.63" west longitude;

Then following a straight line in an easterly direction to the confluence of Nipishish Lake and the Crooked River ;

Then following a straight line due east to the Labrador coastline at Temple Bay , Strait of Belle Isle ;

Then following the Labrador coastline in a generally northerly direction, including all the offshore islands, to the northern shore of Caplin Bay at 53° 07' 20" north latitude and 55° 56' 07.2" west longitude;

Then following a straight line due west to 53° 07' 20" north latitude and 57° 00' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a generally southwesterly direction to the point of commencement.

              (j)  Area 59 - Upper Kenamu

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line beginning at 53° 10' 00" north latitude and 59° 50' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line due south to 52° 30' 00" north latitude and 59° 50' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line due west to 52° 30' 00" north latitude and 61° 30' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line due north to the western bank of the Minipi River at 52° 45' 49.9" north latitude and 61° 30' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a generally northeasterly direction to the confluence of the Kenamu River and South Branch River ;

Then following a straight line in a generally westerly by northwesterly direction to the summit of an unnamed hill at 53° 14' 28.4" north latitude and 64° 04' 14.01" west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a westerly direction to the confluence of an unnamed River with Mistinippi Lake at 54° 41' 31.03" north latitude and 61° 17' 35.44" west longitude;

Then following the southern bank of this river and its associated waterways in a generally westerly direction to the western extremity of an unnamed pond at 54° 44' 03.72" north latitude and 61° 46' 11.45" west longitude;

Then following a straight line due north along 59° 50' 00" west longitude to its intersection with the Trans Labrador Highway ;

Then following the Trans Labrador Highway in a generally southeasterly, then easterly, then northeasterly direction to its intersection with 58° 00' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line due south to the point of commencement.

             (o)  Area 87 - Eagle Plateau

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line beginning at the intersection of the Trans Labrador Highway with 58° 00' 00" west longitude;

Then following the Trans Labrador Highway in a generally southwesterly, then westerly, then northwesterly direction to its intersection with 59° 50' 00" west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a northerly direction to the confluence of the Kenemich River with an unnamed brook at 53° 15' 51.95" north latitude and 59° 49' 56.79" west longitude;

Then following said river in a generally northerly direction to its outflow into the Carter Basin , Lake Melville ;
