Salmon Angling and Tag Use Order
under the
Wild Life Regulations
and the
Wild Life Act

Under the authority of section 4.1 of the Wild Life Regulations and the Wild Life Act, I make the following Order.

Analysis



Short title

        1. This Order may be cited as the Salmon Angling and Tag Use Order .

Tags - class III rivers

        2. Salmon retained by angling on rivers with a yearly quota of 2 salmon (Class III) under section 13.1 and Schedule I of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations (Canada) shall be tagged with red tags only.

Tags - class II rivers

        3. Salmon retained by angling on rivers with a yearly quota of 4 salmon (Class II) under section 13.1 and Schedule I of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations (Canada) shall be tagged with red or green tags only.

Tags - class I rivers

        4. (1) Salmon retained by angling on rivers with a yearly quota of 6 salmon (Class I) under section 13.1 and Schedule I of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations (Canada) shall be tagged with red, green or blue tags.

             (2)  A blue tag referred to in subsection (1) may be affixed to a salmon from the first day of August to the end of the period when salmon angling and retention are permitted.

             (3)  A red or green tag referred to in subsection (1) may be affixed to a salmon during the period when salmon angling and retention are permitted.

             (4)  Notwithstanding subsection (3), a red or green tag may not be affixed to a salmon retained on the Gander River from September 8 to the end of the period when salmon angling and retention are permitted on that river.

Tags - unclassified rivers in Labrador

        5. Salmon retained by angling on rivers that are unclassified in Zone 1 and 2 (Labrador) with a yearly quota of 4 salmon under section 13.1 and Schedule I of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations (Canada) shall be tagged with red or green tags only.

Tags - large salmon in Labrador

        6. Notwithstanding section 5, where a large salmon that is greater than 63 centimetres is permitted to be retained by angling on a river that is unclassified in Zone 1 and 2 (Labrador) under section 13.1 and Schedule I of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations (Canada), the large salmon shall be tagged with a green tag that has "No. 4" imprinted on that tag.

Tags - non-scheduled rivers

        7. Salmon retained by angling on a river or other inland waters with a yearly quota of 2 salmon (Class III) under section 13.1 of the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery Regulations (Canada) that is not listed in Schedule I of those regulations shall be tagged with red tags only.

Condition on tag use

        8. When a person affixes a tag referred to in this Order to a salmon, the person shall immediately cut out and remove the month and day of capture on the tag.
