EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Bill would repeal and replace section 22 of the Vital Statistics Act so that fees paid to registering officers for forwarding notification of the births and deaths occurring in their region to the Registrar General would be set by the Minister of Government Services. Presently the fee amount is stated in section 22 of the Act and may be increased by an order of the Lieutenant-Governor in Council.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

        1. Section 22 of the Vital Statistics Act is repealed and the following is substituted:

Fees for registering officers

      22. (1) A registering officer who, in accordance with section 7, forwards to the Registrar General extracts from the registers kept by the registering officer of births and deaths occurring in his or her locality is entitled to be paid a fee for events registered and forwarded.

             (2)  The minister appointed under the Executive Council Act to administer this Act may set the fees payable and the time and manner of their payment to a registering officer under subsection (1).
