EXPLANATORY NOTE

The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Liquor Control Act so as to allow Labrador Inuit Communities to continue to implement alcohol control initiatives.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

RSNL1990 cL-18 as amended

        1. Subsection 127(2) of the Liquor Control Act is amended by deleting the word "municipality" and substituting the word "community".

 

        2. Paragraphs 128(a) and (b) of the Act are repealed and the following substituted:

             (a)  "community" means an Inuit Community as defined in chapter 1 of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement set out in the Schedule to and defined in the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement Act;

             (b)  "council" means an Inuit Community Council as defined in chapter 17 of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement set out in the Schedule to and defined in the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement Act;

 

        3. Sections 129 to 133 of the Act are amended by deleting the word "municipality" wherever it occurs and substituting the word "community".
