EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Arts Council Act to

· remove the requirement that the accounts and financial transactions of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council comply with the Financial Administration Act; and

· add a requirement that the financial statement of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council be audited by the auditor general.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

1. Section 14 of the Arts Council Act is repealed and the following substituted:

Audit

14. (1) The auditor general shall annually audit the financial statement of the council.

(2) The financial year of the council shall be from April 1 in one year to March 31 in the next year.
