EXPLANATORY NOTES This Bill would amend the Environmental Protection Act to provide authority for the Lieutenant-Governor in Council to make regulations · prohibiting the sale and distribution of plastic retail bags; and · respecting exemptions to the prohibition of the sale and distribution of plastic retail bags. Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows: SNL2002 cE-14.2 1. Subsection 111(1) of the Environmental Protection Act is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (rr.1) the following: (rr.2) prohibiting the sale and distribution of plastic retail bags; (rr.3) respecting exemptions to the prohibition of the sale and distribution of plastic retail bags;
