"WHEREAS Transport Canada failed to seek local input before proceeding with the divestiture of Port Harmon;

AND WHEREAS the operation of Port Harmon is a critical part of economic development in the Stephenville area;

AND WHEREAS there is significant opposition to the privatization initiative currently being undertaken;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this House of Assembly calls on the Federal Government to put in place an open public process to decide the future of Port Harmon at Stephenville."

5. -- MR. JACK BYRNE (Cape St. Francis) -- To Move:

"WHEREAS the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association has expressed grave concern on behalf of its members that the RNC, having lost more than 70 officers in recent years, lacks sufficient personnel and proper equipment to discharge its responsibility to protect the public in the jurisdictions it serves;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Honourable House call on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to address the concerns raised by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association on a high-priority basis."
