MOTIONS

1. -- THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT OF TREASURY BOARD -- To Move "That This House Approves in General the Budgetary Policy of the Government." (Budget Speech)

2. -- THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT OF TREASURY BOARD -- To Move that the House Resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole on Supply to Consider Certain Resolutions for the Granting of Supply to Her Majesty. (Bill No. 3 )

3. -- MR. KEVIN AYLWARD (St. George's - Stephenville East) -- To Move:

"WHEREAS Transport Canada failed to seek local input before proceeding with the divestiture of Port Harmon;

AND WHEREAS the operation of Port Harmon is a critical part of economic development in the Stephenville area;

AND WHEREAS there is significant opposition to the privatization initiative currently being undertaken;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this House of Assembly calls on the Federal Government to put in place an open public process to decide the future of Port Harmon at Stephenville."

4. -- MS. SANDRA KELLY(Gander) -- To Move:

"WHEREAS quality weather forecasting is a very valuable and necessary service for the Province and its residents;

AND WHEREAS the cutbacks to the Newfoundland Weather Centre will mean a regional forecast from Halifax and the elimination of local weather forecasting from Newfoundland and Labrador at Environment Canada;

AND WHEREAS people working in the fishery, aviation, highway transportation, shipping and our developing offshore oil and gas sector rely on accurate weather forecasting;

AND WHEREAS the 103 Air Search and Rescue Unit, which has saved many lives depends on accurate weather forecasting;

AND WHEREAS this latest cut in service to Newfoundland and Labrador is continuing a larger trend of this Province being mistreated by the Government of Canada;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this House of Assembly calls for a reversal of the decision by the Federal Government to cut weather forecasting services at Gander."

5. -- MR. LOYOLA SULLIVAN (Ferryland) -- To Move:

"WHEREAS the Newfoundland and Labrador Home Heating Fuel Rebate announced by the Minister of Finance on March 20, 2003 provides a $100 rebate for low income households that use furnace oil, stove oil or propane as their primary source of heat;

AND WHEREAS households that use electric heat have had extraordinary increases in their heating costs because of the unusually cold weather; and face additional deferred costs when Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro raises electricity rates to offset the cost of bunker C fuel used to produce electricity at Holyrood;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the government amend the Newfoundland and Labrador Home Heating Fuel Rebate to include low income households that use electricity as their primary source of heat."
