"WHEREAS subsection 4(1) of the Elections Act, 1991 provides that the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer be filled by resolution of the House of Assembly;

AND WHEREAS subsection 34(2) of the House of Assembly Act provides that a Commissioner of Members' Interests be appointed by the House of Assembly on the motion of the Premier following consultation with the Leader of the Official Opposition and representatives of other registered political parties having representation in the House of Assembly;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Mr. Paul Reynolds be appointed Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner of Members' Interests."

12. -- MR. KELVIN PARSONS (Burgeo & LaPoile) -- To Move:

"BE IT RESOLVED that Mr. Paul Reynolds be appointed Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner of Members' Interests only after it is verified that he meets the requirements for the appointment equivalent to a DRO under section 21 of the Elections Act."

13. -- MR. TERRY FRENCH (Conception Bay South) -- To Move:

"WHEREAS this Government is committed to protecting the resources and the future of Newfoundland and Labrador;

AND WHEREAS our Province has been betrayed by the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada;

AND WHEREAS this breach of trust will result in our Province and our people being seriously disadvantaged;

AND WHEREAS the Province's non-renewable resource revenues represent a meaningful and long-term opportunity for our Province to attain true self-reliance and economic prosperity;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that all Members of this Honourable House support the Premier and this Government in calling upon the Government of Canada to honour its commitment respecting the removal of non-renewable resource revenues from the equalization formula."
