1. C THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT
OF TREASURY BOARD C To
Move:
“WHEREAS subsection 8(1) of the Child and Youth Advocate Act authorizes the Lieutenant-Governor in
Council to suspend the Child and Youth Advocate;
AND WHEREAS following correspondence sent to the
Lieutenant-Governor in Council by the Speaker of this House dated
AND WHEREAS subsection 8(1) of the Child and Youth Advocate Act states that a suspension ". . shall not continue in force beyond the end of the
next ensuing session of the House of Assembly. . .";
AND WHEREAS in correspondence
to the Clerk of the Executive Council dated
AND WHEREAS it is proposed that the Child and Youth Advocate be
given the time she has requested for the preparation of a response;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this House of Assembly, under the
authority granted it by section 7 of the Child
and Youth Advocate Act, concur in the continuation of the suspension of the
Child and Youth Advocate by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council until the next
ensuing session of this House.”
2. C MS. YVONNE JONES (Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair) C To Move:
“WHEREAS Government
announced on August 31, 2009, that X-ray and laboratory services in Lewisporte
and Flower's Cove will be discontinued and that Flower's Cove will operate on a
12-hour basis;
AND WHEREAS
residents of these communities and surrounding areas will be forced to travel
much longer distances to receive these basic health services;
AND WHEREAS on
September 3, 2009, hundreds of residents from both communities protested
against the decision by Government to discontinue services;
AND WHEREAS
doctors have publicly stated their fears that the health of residents will be
compromised and that doctors may be forced to leave the areas;
AND WHEREAS
discontinuing these services will not improve the health services to the
communities directly affected nor to the surrounding communities;
THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED that this House of Assembly calls upon Government to reverse their
decision and continue X-ray and laboratory services in the communities of
Lewisporte and Flower's Cove;
AND BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this House of Assembly calls upon Government to reverse their decision and keep Flower's
Cove as a 24-hour operational clinic.”
