1. C THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT OF TREASURY BOARD C To Move that the House Resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole to Consider a Certain Resolution Respecting the Imposition of Taxes on Tobacco. (Bill No. 10)

 

2. C THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT OF TREASURY BOARD C To Move that the House Resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole to consider a Resolution Relating to the Advancing or Guaranteeing of Certain Loans made under the Loan and Guarantee Act, 1957. (Bill No. 25)

 

3. C THE HONOURABLE THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE LEADER C To Move:

 

        “WHEREAS section 42.1 of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act provides that the Information and Privacy Commissioner is to be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council on a resolution of the House of Assembly;

 

        AND WHEREAS section 42.2 of the Act states that a commissioner may be reappointed;

 

        AND WHEREAS the appointment of the current commissioner, Mr. Ed Ring, expires on April 10, 2010;

 

        AND WHEREAS it is proposed that Mr. Ring be reappointed as the commissioner for a term of 2 years;

 

        NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Mr. Ed Ring, be reappointed as the Information and Privacy Commissioner for a term of 2 years.”

 

4. C MR.  MARSHALL DEAN (The Straits-White Bay North) C To Move:

 

        “WHEREAS there is a crisis in the fishing industry of our Province;

 

        AND WHEREAS Government's focussed strategy to address these escalating problems has been to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with only two key players in the industry;

 

        AND WHEREAS it has been nearly a year with no significant and practical progress on this MOU and there are concerns about its ultimate effectiveness;

 

        AND WHEREAS the process does not include a community voice or the Federal Government;

 

        AND WHEREAS the Province failed to allocate any funding to launch strategies of the MOU process;

 

        AND WHEREAS restructuring is occurring now, including fish plants closing and license transfers occurring, affecting peoples' livelihoods and the economic viability of rural communities;

 

        THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this House of Assembly encourages the Provincial Government to launch an interim program and action plan that would assist fish plant workers and communities affected, which would include an Early Retirement Package, a Workers Adjustment Program and a Community Investment Initiative to assist in this transitional process.”
