A list of the specific inaccuracies responded to and the corrected information referred to by the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills in the press release of June 8, 2012 entitled “Minister Clarifies Approval Process for Job Creation Partnerships” allegedly correcting information related to the distribution of funds of the Job Creation Partnership Program in response to alleged inaccuracies in information released by the Official Opposition.

26. C MR JIM BENNETT (ST. BARBE) – To ask the Honourable the Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development to lay on the Table of the House the following information

The Federal Government has announced that the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Fund will now cease to fund Regional Economic Development Boards.  Currently ACOA provides 75% of the funding to 19 Regional Economic Development Boards.

What is the position of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador regarding the continuation of these boards?

Specifically:

1.   Will the Province commit to replace the funding terminated by the Federal Government so that these boards can continue their valuable regional work; or

2.   Will the Province meet with these boards and review their mandate and funding formula to ensure the continuation of these boards in a somewhat reduced form; or

3.   Will the Province meet with the boards with a view to reducing the number of boards by merger so that the progress achieved by these boards can continue; or

4.   What plan does the Province have regarding the continuation of these boards; and

5.   When will the Province announce any such plan?
