7. – MS. GERRY ROGERS (St. John's Centre) − To Move:

 

           “WHEREAS the Family Violence Intervention Court provided a comprehensive approach to domestic violence in a court setting that fully understood and dealt with the complex issues of domestic violence;

 

            AND WHEREAS domestic violence continues to be one of the most serious issues facing our Province today;

 

            AND WHEREAS the cost of the impact of domestic violence is great both economically and in human suffering;

 

            AND WHEREAS the Family violence Intervention Court was welcomed and endorsed by all aspects of the justice system including the police, the courts, prosecutors, defence counsel, Child, Youth and Family Services, as well as victims, offenders, community agencies and women's groups;

 

            AND WHEREAS the recidivism rate for offenders going through the court was 10 percent compared to 40 percent for those who did not;

 

            THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Assembly urge Government to consider reinstating the Family Violence Intervention Court”.

QUESTIONS

 

27.MR. CHRISTOPHER MITCHELMORE (The Straits – White Bay North)   To ask the Honourable the Minister of Health and Community Services to lay on the Table of the House the following information:

 

(a)  all correspondence sent to the Newfoundland & Labrador Centre for Health Information regarding their non-compliance with adopting salaries that are in line with pay scales of the public sector from the Minister or any member of the Department of Health and Community Services or any person acting on his/her behalf.

 

(b)  the total amount of legal fees listed by firm incurred by the Newfoundland & Labrador Centre for Health Information seeking advice to contest the directive from the Minister of Health and Community Services which would bring salaries at the Newfoundland & Labrador Centre for Health Information in line with other public sector pay scales.
