1. − THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT OF TREASURY BOARD − To Move that the House Resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole to  Consider a Resolution Relating to the Advancing or Guaranteeing of Certain Loans made under the Loan and Guarantee Act, 1957”. (Bill No. 31)

4. – MR. TOM OSBORNE (St. John's South) – To Move:

 

WHEREAS the Auditor General found there is no documentation to support the decision to cancel the contract for Project 1-12 between Humber Valley Paving and the Department of Transportation and Works;

 

AND WHEREAS the Auditor General did not receive a response from Humber Valley Paving to its request for information and solicitor-client privilege for the company was not waived;

 

AND WHEREAS the Auditor General was left with many unanswered questions following his review of the cancellation of the contract for Project 1-12;

 

AND WHEREAS a public inquiry would allow an independent third party to require that all public and private parties involved in the contract appear under oath to answer questions;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this House urges the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to conduct a full investigation into Humber Valley Paving and the cancellation of Project 1-12 using a public inquiry under subsection 3(1) of the Public Inquiries Act, 2006, which states: “The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may by order establish a commission of inquiry to inquire and report on a matter that the Lieutenant-Governor in Council considers to be of public concern”.”

 

QUESTIONS

 

1. − MR. ANDREW PARSONS (Burgeo - LaPoile) – To ask the Minister of Justice and Public Safety to lay on the Table of the House the following information:

 

               (a)     reason(s) why the Gunshot and Stab Wound Reporting Act, which was assented to on May 31, 2011, has not been proclaimed;

 

(b)     if determined, the date Government intends to proclaim the Gunshot and Stab Wound Reporting Act and

 

(c)     if produced, a draft of the regulations associated with the Gunshot and Stab Wound Reporting Act.
