MOTIONS

 

1.   – THE HONOURABLE THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE LEADER − To Move:

 

        “WHEREAS section 4 of the Auditor General Act provides that on resolution of the House of Assembly, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council shall appoint an Auditor General;  

 

        THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Julia Mullaley be appointed as the Auditor General”.

 

2.    – THE HONOURABLE THE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND PRESIDENT OF TREASURY BOARD − To Move:

     

      “WHEREAS on August 22, 2017, Government announced its decision to reinstate the original point of sale rebate on purchases of qualifying printed books made after December 31, 2017;

 

        AND WHEREAS the Harmonized Sales Tax is levied by the Government of Canada, pursuant to the federal Excise Tax Act and the collection of Harmonized Sales Tax is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency;

 

        AND WHEREAS Newfoundland and Labrador entered into a federal-provincial agreement called the Comprehensive Integrated Tax Coordination Agreement which allows the Province to introduce federally administered tax exemptions with certain conditions;

 

        AND WHEREAS a condition of that agreement is that a change in provincial tax policy must be brought to the House of Assembly for a vote ratifying that decision;

 

        THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the point of sale rebate on the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax on purchases of qualifying printed books made after December 31, 2017 be reinstated in the same manner and form that had been employed prior to January 1, 2017”.

 

        3. − THE HONOURABLE THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE LEADER – To Move pursuant to provisional Standing Order 11(1) that the House not adjourn at 5:30 o'clock p.m. on Tuesday, December 5th, 2017.
